Our Redeemer Lutheran Church History
In the summer of 1962, Pastor Charles Briggs was sent to Appleton by the Board of American Missions to develop an ULCA church. The first services were held in September of that year in a home purchased in Appleton. On May 30, 1965, the church moved to its present location at 1750 Midway Road, Menasha.
In addition to Pastor Briggs, over the years, we were privileged to have Pastor Gerald Kissell, Pastor Wayne Rydberg, Pastor Paul Sorensen, Pastor John Thompson, Pastor Alan Schaffmeyer (Interim Supply Pastor), Pastor Jennifer DeNetz, Pastor Dennis Nelson (Interim Supply Pastor), Pastor Debra Sim, Pastor James Seim (Interim Supply Pastor). In November 2012 Pastor Stephanie Lorenz became our Pastor.
Thru a merger several years ago, we are now part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The church is active in many areas of the community. The Ladies who make quilts on Tuesday mornings have made several thousand of them to be distributed locally, nationally and internationally. We have a Prayer Shawl Ministry that knits beautiful shawls to give to members to comfort during trying times. The Social Ministries Committee along with the Women of the ELCA put together several health kits and school kits that are sent to under-develop countries all over the world. Food is collected monthly for the local Food Pantries. Members of our church prepare and serve the Sunday noon meal at the Salvation Army twice a year.
